Notifications
Rostyman's Notifications Center keeps you informed about important events — source changes, cloud share issues, scheduler results, and more — without interrupting your workflow.
Opening the Notifications Center
The Notifications Center lives in the right panel:
- Click the bell icon in the right panel's vertical tab strip
- Or open the right panel with
Ctrl+Jand switch to the Notifications tab
A badge on the bell icon shows the count of unread notifications.
Notification Types
Source Change Notifications
When a collection was imported from a file or URL, Rostyman periodically checks whether the source has changed. If an update is detected:
- A notification appears showing the collection name and source type
- Click Sync Now to import the latest version immediately
- Or click Dismiss to keep your current version
Cloud Share Link Notifications
When a Cloud Storage share link becomes invalid:
- A warning notification appears with the collection name
- The message indicates the link may have been deleted from the cloud provider
- This check runs on app startup and at the configured source check interval
App Update Notifications
When a new version of Rostyman has been downloaded and is ready to install, a notification appears with an Install & Restart button.
MCP Server Notifications
When the MCP server encounters critical errors, a notification appears with the error details.
Scheduler Notifications
When a scheduled job runs:
- Failure — shows the job name and error details (delivered as desktop notification)
Managing Notifications
Search
Use the search bar at the top of the Notifications panel to filter notifications by keyword. This searches across notification titles and descriptions.
Dismiss
- Single notification — click the X button on any notification card
- Clear all — click the Clear All button at the top of the panel to dismiss everything
Notification Actions
Some notifications include action buttons:
| Action | When It Appears |
|---|---|
| Sync Now | Source change detected for an imported collection |
| Install & Restart | App update downloaded and ready |
Native OS Notifications
When Rostyman is minimized to the system tray or not focused, important notifications are also delivered through your operating system:
- Windows — toast notification in the bottom-right corner
- macOS — banner notification from the Notification Center
- Linux — notification via your desktop environment's notification daemon
Click a native notification to bring Rostyman back to the foreground.
Which Events Trigger Native Notifications
- Source file changes detected
- Scheduler job failures
Routine events while the app is in focus only appear in the in-app Notifications Center.
Persistence
Notifications are stored in SQLite and persist across app restarts. They remain in the panel until you dismiss them.
Tips
- The Sync Now action on source change notifications is the fastest way to stay up to date
- If you prefer not to be interrupted, set the source watch interval to "Startup only" in Settings
- Native OS notifications only appear when Rostyman is minimized — they won't duplicate in-app notifications
